As you likely know, the recent “alley” of tornadoes experienced by many of our neighbors around the country has been somewhat devastating. Many of our Lutheran sister agencies across the nation are in the midst of recovery efforts for congregations and community members who have experienced this tragic act of nature.
In Alabama, Kentucky, Indiana, Oklahoma, and throughout the Midwest and the South, thousands of families were affected and an equal number of homes have been destroyed. Some towns have been totally wiped out. Over thirty-eight people have died and the number of fatalities continues to increase. Long-term response is needed so these folks can begin to rebuild their communities.
Of course, volunteer efforts are underway to help with this tragedy. As with any disaster, monetary donations are important to assist with unmet, long-term recovery needs.
On behalf of Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries, Lutheran Disaster Response and the Allegheny Synod, I ask continued prayers and support for the people of the South and the Midwest. I also ask you to send a monetary donation to your neighbors in need. Your charitable contribution can be sent to the Allegheny Synod earmarked, “2012 PA Spring Storm/Tornado Relief.” ALSM is the designated disaster response agency for the ELCA, Allegheny Synod.
Gifts will be used entirely for these disasters.
